At Alba English School, we offer specialized courses tailored for students, teachers and educational staff members seeking vocational training and those participating in the Erasmus+ programme. These courses are geared towards European learners, non-native English-speaking teachers, and educators who teach subjects in English. Our comprehensive packages include 30 hours of instruction per week along with a rich Social and Cultural Programme.

Enhanced English Skills and Scottish Culture | 30 hours per week

Immerse yourself in this programme designed to improve your English-speaking abilities rapidly. With a mix of General English classes every weekday morning and smaller group lessons in the afternoon, this course targets learners who are looking to achieve fluency.

Course Objectives:

  • Gain insights into the Scottish Culture
  • Network and collaborate with students and educators across Europe

Course Content:

1. English Language Training: The course offers a diverse set of language activities focused on:

    • General English skills
    • Classroom language and educational terminology
    • English for international communications

2. Cultural Experience: guided walking tours, museums, conversational cafes, Scottish-themed evenings with whisky tasting, traditional Scottish dancing and more.

  • 13:15 – 14:45: Small Group Lessons

English Language Course for Educators | 30 hours per week

This course is designed for teachers across various disciplines who aim to enhance their English language skills for professional development and international collaborations.

Course Objectives:

  • Improve English language proficiency
  • Gain insights into primary and secondary education in Ireland
  • Network and collaborate with educators across Europe

Course Content:

English Language Training Component:

A wide range of language activities aimed at: General English skills, Classroom language and educational terminology, English for professional communications such as emails, meetings, and conferences.

 
Teacher Training Component: Conversations about the Scottish Education System, Exchange of teaching methodology, techniques and strategies. Conversations about the primary or secondary schools in the UK, and a guided cultural tour of Edinburgh.

CLIL Methodology Teacher Training | 30 Hours per Week

 
 
This course is aimed at teachers at primary and secondary levels who want to learn more about the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach to English language learning and acquisition. The CLIL component of the course covers the following:
 

Key aspects of the programme:

  • Improve teaching methodologies
  • Minimize usage of the first language in teaching
  • Use tech and interactive methods for effective teaching
  • Teach grammar creatively and effectively
  • Key concepts and theories about the CLIL approach
  • Practical techniques for lesson planning, classroom management, language instruction, learner feedback, learner autonomy and assessment. 
  • Useful resources and materials for the classroom 
  • Troubleshooting

Objectives of the programme:

  • Explore and develop teaching practice
  • Teaching reading and writing skills
  • Minimising first language usage
  • Using classroom Apps and improved interactivity
  • Using games for learning
  • Helping students activate vocabulary
  • Speaking, listening & phonology
  • Presenting and demonstrating
  • Using audio and video in the classroom
  • Teaching grammar creatively
  • Improve the participant’s ability to teach English
  • Refresh the participant’s English language knowledge
  • Immersion in Scottish culture

Who is the programme for?

This course is designed for English teachers at primary and secondary levels and higher and adult education. Although the course is not limited to EU citizens, teachers and education professionals from within the EU and participating countries can apply for Erasmus+ funding to study this course.

Participants in these courses come from all over the world and are at various stages of their careers.
