Position: Marketer
Hometown: Graz, Austria

Where and what have you studied?

I am currently studying Marketing Management at Edinburgh Napier University.

Why do you like learning languages?

Because I like to be able to communicate with people in their native language. Language very much influences the way we think and speak and by studying the local language you are one step closer to understanding and living the local culture. English is particularly useful because it is the world’s most commonly spoken language, so even if you do not speak the local language it is very likely that you will able to communicate in English.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

It is such a friendly and cultural city. There is so much to see and to do and the locals are always helpful. I also love the beautiful architecture here; it is just so different from where I come from.

What do you like about Alba English School?

I like that everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to. Also, you get to meet a lot of people from many different countries. And of course the free tea and biscuits!

What do you do in your free time?

I love to travel - I visit new places whenever I get a chance and I enjoy taking pictures with my camera there. At home, I like spending time with my friends and family, read (in different languages), listen to music or make music myself (I sing in a choir and play the piano as well as the recorder).

If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?

I think I would choose Harry Potter’s wizarding world. It is a fascinating world where everything seems to be possible and there are lots of things to explore, but it also means I can always go back to my old life as a muggle if I don’t like it there.

If you could take only three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?

Assuming that I would only stay there for a limited amount of time: A friend, a bookcase full of books and a camera.

If you could have dinner with a famous person (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

Nelson Mandela. He was a truly inspiring person and I think I could learn a lot from a conversation with him.

Tell us a random fact about you!

In my first year at university I helped start the “Eurotalk Language Society” – we meet up every week to practice languages.

What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?

The Edinburgh Christmas Market. I enjoy the atmosphere there – it always gets me into a Christmas mood and also reminds me a little bit of home.
