Where and what have you studied?
BA History (King’s College, Western), MTS (Huron College, Western), MA Theology (University of Western Ontario), PhD Divinity ’18 (University of Edinburgh)
Why do you like learning languages?
I like learning languages because they help us to explain the past, to understand the present, and look forward to the future.
English is important mainly because of its sophisticated sense of beauty, not only its usefulness (though this certainly is important too!).
I like being an English teacher because I have had the best students from across the world (literally!).
What do you like about Edinburgh?
I like the history, the architecture, and the atmosphere. But most of all I love the people!
What do you like about Alba English School?
I like Alba English because the students are hard-working, the staff are friendly, and Jenny is a great boss!
What do you do in your free time?
Read, read, and read some more… and sometimes write about it all! I also try to play with my children every day, take the whole family on adventures at weekends where my wife takes all the photos, play ice hockey, and play guitar on occasion. I sometimes even sleep…
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be?
Right now I would like to try to live within the TV show “Vikings.” I think that would be really exciting (and dangerous)!
If you could take only three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?
A pen, a book, and a guitar.
If you could have dinner with a famous person (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
It would be Saint Augustine of Hippo († 430 AD), since he could help me a lot with my current research and thesis writing (he is, after all, the patron of theologians).
Tell us a random fact about you!
I planted 50,000+ trees one summer, long ago…
What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?
So far it is Portobello Beach. It is so peaceful and calm most days, so I like to look at the ships out on the Firth and relax after biking my way there. Feel free to join me sometime!
